Join the Sweetwater Federal Credit Union and you join a movement.
The credit union movement in the United States dates to 1909 and is
driven by a philosophy of people working together to solve their credit
problems and to improve their financial status. Credit Unions began
with volunteers organizing and operating the union in order to pool
the savings of members in order to provide credit at a more reasonable
rate. Credit Unions still rely on member volunteers to serve on the
Board of Directors and various credit union committees in order to
keep costs down. However, credit unions now have paid professional
staff, the ability to offer a wide range of services, the assistance
of a professional, national association, and the backing of the federal
government to assure the financial safety of your credit union.
The Sweetwater Federal Credit Union began, like so many other credit
unions, with a group of federal and state employees pooling some
of their savings. Seven men, employees of the Bureau of Reclamation,
the Federal Social Security Office and the Wyoming State Employment
Service signed the Charter and set out to find one hundred members.
From those original 107 members and a few hundred dollars the Sweetwater
Federal Credit Union has grown to over 3000 members with assets
of $20,000,000.00. Moreover, from an organization serving strictly
government employees the Sweetwater Federal Credit Union has become
a Community Charter Credit Union open to anyone who lives, works
or worships in Sweetwater County. The Sweetwater Federal Credit
Union continues to expand services and is now available on the worldwide
web. On March 19, 2007 we moved to our new location 2611 Foothill
Blvd. in Rock Springs. As we continue into 2012 Sweetwater Federal
Credit Union will continue to expand member services to more fully
help our members with all of their financial needs.
At the Sweetwater Federal Credit Union you are more than
a customer, you are a member.
